CHARACTER
CHARACTER NAME: Madoka Kaname
CHARACTER AGE: 14
CANON: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
CANON POINT: Episode 12, immediately after she makes her wish
HISTORY: ❝ I could tell them countless times. ❞
PERSONALITY:Described as an good-natured but ordinary girl, Madoka has lived a life that she does not take much pride in, wishing to change for the better and become more for the people she loves so dearly. Nevertheless, she has lived a good life as a good person- she almost seems to be the very definition of compassion when you first meet her and you wouldn't be very far off thinking so. She is overly kind, friendly to everyone and amazingly selfless for someone her age with a want to always be truthful like her parents taught her.
Honestly, she is just a good person and constantly tries to do her very best. She follows her heart and the advice of her family, guided by a want to do what is right.
She can sometimes be shy and nervous but if she calls you her friend, she is loyal to a fault. Not the sort of to judge others based on appearances or words alone, she seeks out her own understandings and judges for herself when others might look the other way. It's simply not in her to immediately think the worst of someone, and harder still to hate them and feel happy in her decision. The heartache that comes with being a teenager, especially one with such a big heart, opens her up to be both naive and gullible of those that are out there to hurt her. This tends to get her into trouble, especially earlier timelines where she easily believe in what Kyuubey tells her and never asking asking questions, for explanations or really thinking hard on what it would mean to be a magical girl which leads to several rash choices and wishes.
Unfortunately, Madoka does not have much self-confidence in herself or her abilities without her magical powers and believes she has no good qualities to be proud of otherwise. This changes when she meets Mami and watches her fight for the sake of others, she realizes she could possibly do the same thing and it fills her with a happiness she had not felt before. Madoka believes just being able to become a magical girl will be granting her wish since someone like her—someone so useless—could finally be useful to someone else.
Hand-in-hand with this is the harsh self-hatred that she carries for herself at times and because of this- tends to blame herself for things far beyond her control. No matter the timeline, if something were to happen to her friends it will lead her believe that it what happened was her fault because she was too weak to change it. When she is captured by a witch and tortured with images of Mami and her death in the last timeline for example, she believes this is something she deserves for being both weak and a liar.
She justifies her negativity by beating herself down, figuring that if she had not been weak, a liar or a coward than they never would have happened.
Nevertheless, inside Madoka is the strength she does not believe herself to be capable of. Her bravery and confidence shines in the timelines where she become a magical girl, facing threats head-on and despite the risks she will face. In a way, she tries to pass her own confidence to others and this is mostly seen in the very first timeline when she befriends Homura. Reassuring and cheering the other girl on, perhaps realizing the similar qualities that had plagued her through life. Even in the times when she had not become a magical girl, her love for her friends will give birth to the courage she needs and solidify her decision to become a magical girl.
As mentioned, she is extremely selfless- the sort of girl to wear her heart on her sleeve and when her friend is killed by a witch (unknown to her, Sayaka had become a witch) she does not hesitate to wish for her revival nor offer up her life to fight in Mami's stead or selflessly wishing for the safety of all magical girls across all timelines. This is because, under all of the finite power, Madoka is still the good-natured and ordinary girl she thought she was.
At the end of the day, Madoka is a girl that loves her family, her friends, her city and most of all- she loves the world and everyone in it. She wants the very best for everyone and will fight for it with calm determination and overwhelming kindness.
INVENTORY:— Her school uniform, and signature red ribbons in her hair
— A soul gem, which is currently in the form of a simple ring
— Cellphone
ABILITIES:Madoka is a Puella Magi, or more simply put: a magical girl.
Incubators are alien beings that change young girls who are willing to fight in exchange for their wish being granted into Puella Magi. This aforementioned fighting is the job of hunting down witches and with their transformation into Puella Magi, each girl gains varying and wide varieties of magical power in order to do so. When the contract is formed a special gem, called a soul gem, is created which is the source of the girls' magical powers. As the girl uses her powers, the soul gem begins tarnish and as its light begins to fade so does her powers. The only way to reverse this effect and replenish their magic is by defeating witches, collecting the grief seeds they drop and using the item to cleanse their soul gem.
Powers, outfit and weaponry a girl receives upon making a contact depends not only on the nature of the wish but the girl, herself. A girls' potential and thus future magical strength depends on the misfortune she is destined to carry. So the Queen of a country or a savior would be much stronger than an girl living an ordinary life.
■ SOUL GEM — For magical girls, their soul gem is their real body. When a contract is made, their souls are ripped from their bodies and turned into gems, so they might fight without the restrictions of a normal human body. Since her soul is separated from her physical body, she must keep the gem close at all times- if it were to be lost or if it breaks, her body will die. On the other hand, as long as she keeps her soul gem close and has the magic to spare, it is possible for her to heal from many injuries most would consider fatal.
■ PHYSICAL ENHANCEMENTS — Because they are made into magical girls in order to fight, their bodies are strengthened as a result to withstand numerous battles against witches and their familiars. When transformed her speed, endurance, strength, stamina and pain threshold is far above that of a normal human.
■ MAGICAL ENHANCEMENTS — The nature of Homura's wish means that every time she turns back time, another thread of fate ties itself to Madoka and makes her a stronger magical girl in turn. This has given Madoka the potential to become a magical girl much stronger than any other in the world, if not the entire universe with the ability to change the very nature of everything in the universe (including recreating it) or completely destroy it if she were to become a witch.
■ WEAPON — Madoka's weapon manifests itself as a bow stylized with a blossoming rose atop it. While using it she can create arrows from pure magic, firing single shots or multiple at enemies with incredible ease and accuracy.
■ KRIEMHILD GRETCHEN — The more magic Madoka uses in fight or simply the magic she uses to keep her body alive, the more her soul gem tarnishes and begins to be eclipsed in blackness. If she does not purify the gem in time with a grief seed, Madoka will turn into a very powerful witch capable of causing massive amounts of destruction in her wake.
FLAWS:An actual cinnamon roll too pure for this world.
BUT a major flaw in her character is, in fact, her selflessness. She acts, at times, with little regards to herself and can cause major issues concerning those around her including leading Homura to go on this crazy time loop trip trying to save her. Since her timelines are connected through her power, it could be said that her past acts such as killing Mami in self-defense could be held over her. There is also the damage and destruction her witch form as caused in pervious timelines.
SAMPLES
ACTION LOG SAMPLE:As the light faded from her eyes, Madoka felt something was not right.
Although greeted once more by the sight of Walpurgisnacht and destruction the view-point had changed. She no longer stood inside the ruins of a building but atop one and neither Homura nor Kyuubey was nearby. For a moment, she was lost in her worry for Homura but the explosion that rocked the area also knocked her out of the worried thoughts.
Madoka turned just in time and saw the aftermath of the explosion and she is almost overwhelmed by the sheer forced it produced. Instead she felt her heart as it began to drum louder and louder in her chest until it almost became the only thing she could hear as she watched the scene that played out before her eyes. It took a moment but she realized quickly that it was Homura once again fighting the gigantic witch and gasped. But why? How… She thought to herself, as her mind reeled back to the sight of Homura bleeding and hurt.
Her thoughts are interrupted, so horribly, as she watched the building be slammed into the other girl. Her heart ached and with Homura’s state when she arrived before still fresh in mind, she allowed herself to react…
She jumped.
Her body felt light despite how fast she continued to fall, cushioned by magic as she landed and forced herself to run—run faster than she ever had before. She weaved through chunks of concrete, broken glass and twisted metal toward the building, toward where she knew Homura had landed. Madoka checked the sky, her eyes locked on floating pieces of broken building as she bent at her knees and jumped up as high as she could.
Madoka landed atop a broken piece of what was once a part of Mitakihara's skyline and took the moment granted to decide the best path to get to where she knew Homura was. The gifted moment was not once that lasted long as color surrounded her and the witch's familiar appeared in a chorus of laughter, but she is still determined to push forward and get to the other girl in time. She raised the bow in her hand toward the grouped familiars as she pulled back on the string that appeared as the rose atop the weapon bloomed in the surge of pink light that blazed from the weapon now. The single arrow drawn back morphed into many as she steadied herself, the sensation in her chest that reminded her of how familiar this feeling, ignored for now — took aim and allowed the arrows to fly at their targets.
The explosion decimated the group, sparks of color left to float in the air as they vanished. Madoka does not wait in the aftermath for long and pushed herself to jump once more, higher and higher until she reached the familiar building. By now Walpurgisnacht was all she heard; even her heart is a whisper in comparison to the witch’s laughter that echoed throughout the building as she hurried on.
It would be okay.
Madoka knew this now and she would make sure of it. After all, it was her prayer, her wish and the very thing she believed was worth giving this life of hers for.
